Is it safe to visit Thailand in December given the current protest situation? ?
It is in all the news that Bangkok has been paralyzed by protesters because of some political conflicts, so it remains a safe city to travel in the next month. I already booked my travel, tickets, all of the property. . . .

Avoid the areas in Bangkok where protesters are active and stay away from the southernmost provinces where there are tensions with muslims

It should be safe. But you could always change your plans and go to Burma. No protest going on there.

Yes it is safe. Its all about political conflit. It is no harm to tourists at all. Thai people are still and always friendly to visitors. Plus many tourist attractions in Bangkok are far from protestors. Other famous places north and south parts, such as phuket, samui, chiang mai are very safe, but you may be bothered by some off-season rain.
Dec til March is appropriate time to visit since the weather is nice and cool.

I was there last month when the protest was still on. I was a little worried by what I saw on TV though I’ve been to Bangkok many times, but our Thai friends there assured us life was normal.
When I was finally there, I was going around in the usual tourist areas, and life was absolutely normal. We couldn’t even tell there were some political unrest going on there!

It’s probably less safe than before. But chances are that you won’t get into trouble there if you avoid crowds and demonstrations.
Although some of those demonstrations are staged at the airports, including the new international airport in Bangkok. Which means that you might have to go into a dangerous situation because you won’t have any other choice.
“The protesters yesterday blockaded parliament, forcing lawmakers to abandon a legislative session, and said they may confront Somchai at Bangkok’s new international airport tomorrow when he returns from an Asia Pacific summit in Peru.”

Also, when many people are not respecting law and order. Then criminals often take advantage of the situation for their own benefit.

No it is not safe. The situation is set to deteriorate.
Eleven people were shot today by PAD protestors – the so called Peoples Alliance for Democracy, and both airports closed.
It’s not a matter of avoiding crowds, or even staying away from the protest site as the PAD are making everywhere a protest site now.

Frankly, not really. They were just shooting each other with 11 injured yesterday in an intersection close by my house. I heard gun shot fire this morning as well.
Generally, it’s ok. But, if you go mingle with the protesters the chances that you go get hurt will be high. In any case, the Bangkok internation airport is closed because the flock of protesters storming the place last night.
I live here and still have to go to work. There’s nothing else happening normally.

The situation is changing all the time and you shouldn’t make a final decision until perhaps one or two days prior to your trip.
Check out the advice given by your Government as that’s what most travel companies will be checking too.
Check the terms of your travel insurance as well because you will probably find that ‘civil unrest’ is listed as a specific exclusion.
