@jennaethan Yes; I did another video on this subject called “golf pro lesson bridging flat wrist with hinged wrists” talking about the release of the golf swing being the same as the football and tennis serve release; Thanks for the comment!

Shawn I love your videos. They have help my swing so much. The explanation are so excellent that I never felt the need to comment. But this time I have to disagree with the pronation/supination term. Maybe you should rename it cupping and bowing. Those are different actions. Pronation /supination refers to rotation of the arms and wrist. Tim Clark cannot supinate his forearms but has one of the most accurate swings on the PGA. Comments?

This vid goes well with the Weak or Strong Grip vid. Seems like a stronger grip allows the hands to be farther ahead of the ball when the left wrist gets flat thus allowing more time for the face to square to the ball.

Talking about Golf grips, When you pick up a golf club your hands are the only part of your body that touch the club. For many years the hands (grip) have often been referred to as the steering wheel of the golf swing. I don’t believe this could be more true. Gripping the golf club correctly makes playing this game a much better experience. w w w (dot) golferbreak80 (dot) c0m

Thanks for the vid. I’ll try it next time on range as I found I am still releasing early when I video myself with hi-speed camera. Do you have any vids of using longer irons for this? It seems much harder to do with say a 5 iron where your hands may not be as far ahead.. and with a 3iron.

Close! Hit some long chip shots like in my “golf pro lesson chip yips” video and really get the feel for the low punch chip shots at 30 to 40 yards; the 10 to 20 yards chip with a lob wedge should be 3 feet off the ground tops! Then when you have done 100 or so in a row and have complete control, see “golf pro lesson how to feel the short swing” and this will show you how to take it to the pitch and then to the full swing; Shawn

Thanks for this – unfortunately this unwanted hand action(scooping) is something that creeps back into my game if i ever hit a few bad shots!!! would you recommend no wrist cocking to eliminate this and just maintain the bowed wrist throughout the swing?

  8. bboardma Says:

So while all these ‘factors’ can be controlled, it’s more reliable to land the ball on a spot and let it roll up to the hole using a stable arc and momentum.
    Makes sense, Thanks

  9. clemshaw Says:

Alright; I get this question a lot and it has to do with the right conditions of new club with sharp grooves, softest ball cover, shortest grass and compression with the ball; this compression has to do with the proper leading of the hands through the ball (Lower Case Letter y) with an accelerated motion of the arms; however, having played with a short game that uses momentum for the last 10 years, this kind of shot has not been a priority to me as my short game gets much better touch…Shawn

  10. bboardma Says:

    Hey Shawn,
Thanks for these lessons here on You Tube and especially your CD. My short game consistency is much improved except for the short low chip shot that bounces twice and bites. Can’t seemed to consistently pull it off when I want to. A video on controlling short shot ball reactions would be great. Are there certain environmental, or distance ‘Red Lights’ to watch for when attempting specific kinds of short shot ball control? Thanks

  11. clemshaw Says:

    Hey Cosmic;
See “golf pro lesson arm motion” and “golf pro lesson arms falling down plane” to start; then see “golf pro lesson through the ball” and “golf pro lesson contact and spin” and “golf pro lesson compress through the ball; you can also see it in slow motion with “golf pro lesson slow motion”! :)

  12. CosmicSPC Says:

so question is where to unhinge the wrists? before ball or after the impact?? i dont understand proper release. please help!

  13. clemshaw Says:

Thank you very much Benner; this is exactly my goal for this video; Shawn

  14. benner39 Says:

Great video. I agree with all of it and i think this is one of the “secrets” that armatures dont understand. One thing that is bugging me though is it is bow as in bow and arrow, now bow as in a Japanese greeting. Bow and cup. which is by the way not the exact same as pronate and suplinate, but the cupping and bowing cause those things to occur. For simplification purposes i think your way is easier. Again, great video.

Great video-Really gives the golfer a good look at the impact area.I was guilty myself ,for too long of believing I had to uncock my wrists(Thank you Jim Flick) into this position, which resulted in great shots and poor one’s alike.

  20. MikePedersenGolfTips Says:

I love how animated you are with repeating swings as you’re explaining it. This is a very effective way for golfers to really “get it”. Good job!

  21. sethisawesome Says:

in golf it is referred to as pronation and supination, which is the terminology Hogan used in his “Five Lessons.”

  22. spindrift2009 Says:

brilliant…I like idea of working from the lower-case-y chip, to the pitch shot, to the full swing…

  23. andyourdadsladders Says:
